About the BI Report tool

To add a new report, select New > Report in the navigation pane. You can optionally select a layout and theme.

To edit an existing report, locate the report you want, click then select .

You need to add the data sourceA relational database, dimensional cube, file, or other physical data store that can be accessed through Pronto Xi Business Intelligence. from which you will create the new report.

You can quickly add a header and footer to your report.

You can add content to your report using the Toolbox.

You can add additional report and promptA report element that asks for prompt values on which to filter or sort a report. pages in the Pages tab.

You can preview your report by changing to the preview page view.

You can also edit your report in this viewA set of data connected to a cube, deliberately laid out to communicate business information., however this can also slow you down as Cognos Analytics needs to reload the data each time you make a change.

The various types of objects you can import from a Cognos Analytics BI database are represented by different icons, as the following shows.

	Measure dimensionA broad grouping of data about a major aspect of a business, such as products. A dimension provides the context of a fact and is used in queries to group related facts together. In Analytics Dashboards, a dimension provides a perspective of a DMR Schema. Dimensions tend to be discrete and are often hierarchical. A dimension can contain one or more hierarchies. For example, Product Name, Style, Colour, Size.

	Level hierarchyIn Analytics Dashboards, regular dimensions contain descriptive and business key information and this information is organised into a hierarchy; from it's highest level of granularity, to its lowest.
